Protecting Yourself From The Sun Can Increase Your Risk Of Cancer
You can actually increase your chances of getting cancer by protecting yourself from the sun. This can happen because the action of sunlight on your skin is your body’s main source of vitamin D, and low levels of vitamin D can increase your chance of getting cancer by up to 50%.
Yet, we are being encouraged to protect ourselves from sunlight to reduce our risk of getting skin cancer, which is correct, but we need to get the right balance, and the current evidence is that we are overprotecting ourselves from the sun and increasing our risk of cancer.
For more information on getting the right balance, see my article on Vitamin D and Sunlight Exposure.
