Glycerol Suppositories BP are used as a laxative for short term treatment of constipation:

  • Glycerol belongs to a group of medicines which due to its mildly irritating action promotes the emptying of the bowels

How to use Glycerol Suppositories BP

  • Always follow the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist
  • Glycerol suppositories should not be swallowed

To remove a suppository:

  • Tear one from the strip along the perforations
  • Peel the suppository from the plastic wrapping by grasping the two halves of the wrapping at the tip of the suppository and pulling them gently apart
  • Pull apart firmly and slowly

Adults and children over 12 years:

  • Moisten the tip of one suppository before use and insert into the rectum (back passage)

Prolonged use of glycerol suppositories is not recommended. If your symptoms persist consult your doctor.

Other ingredients are: Gelatin and purified water

Warnings

Tell your doctor or pharmacist before using Glycerol Suppositories BP:

  • If you know you are sensitive to any of the ingredients
  • You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast feeding
  • Avoid use during the first three months of pregnancy

Do not use glycerol suppositories if you believe you have an intestinal blockage

Glycerol suppositories should not be swallowed: However the likelihood of any harm being caused is small. If you do feel unwell contact your doctor taking the carton with you.

Glycerol Suppositories can sometimes cause side effects although these are usually minor: This may include stomach cramp, if this or any other unusual or unexpected effect occur stop using the suppositories and contact your doctor
