Directions

Tums Assorted Fruit Antacid Directions:

Adults and children 12 years and over: Suck or chew 1 or 2 Tums tablets when needed, up to a maximum of 16 tablets in any 24 hours.

Pregnant women: Suck or chew 1 or 2 Tums tablets when needed, up to a maximum of 7 tablets in any 24 hours.

  • Do not give to children under 12 years
  • Do not take more than the recommended dose
  • Consult your doctor  if your symptoms persist

If you take to many tablets contact your doctor or casualty department

Each Tums Assorted Fruit Antacid Tablet contains: Calcium carbonate 500mg.

Tums also contains: Dextrose, maize starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate and sodium saccharine.

Flavours: blackcurrant, cherry, lemon and orange.

Colours: Patent blue V ( E131), ponceau 4R (E124), quinoline yellow (E104) and sunset yellow (E110).

  • Colours E110 and E124 may cause allergic reactions 
Warnings

Do not take Tums if you:

  • Have ever had an allergic to calcium carbonate or any of the other ingredients
  • Have kidney (e.g. kidney stones) or thyroid problems
  • Are on a low phosphate diet
  • Have a high blood calcium level
  • Are taking cardiac glycosides (heart tablets e.g. digoxin)
  • Have HTML clipboard Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome (a gastrin-secreting tumour)

Consult your doctor before taking Tums if you:

  • Have been told by your doctor you have an intolerance to some sugars
  • Have diabetes
  • Are taking other medicines such as tetracycline antibiotics, bisphosphonates (for your bones), thiazide diuretics (water tablets).

Possible side effects: You may experience constipation, wind or changes in your blood while using Tums. You may get heartburn after you stop taking the tablets.
