Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a natural state of altered consciousness, and one that we are all familiar with. If you drive the same route regularly and come to the end of the journey without remembering how you got there then you have been in a hypnotic state. During hypnosis the mind is relaxed but fully alert, and this state can be used during hypnotherapy to help with confidence, depression, anxieties and phobias, and many other conditions. Hypnosis is now regarded as a complementary therapy, but it was used in standard medical practice for psychological therapies and even anaesthesia before being replaced by Freudian psychoanalysis and chemical anaesthetics.
