Potter's Cough Remover is a traditional herbal remedy for the symptomatic relief cough:

How to take Potters Herbals Cough Remover:
- It is important that you follow the instructions in your own product carefully
- For oral use only
- Shake the bottle well before use
Adults and elderly:
- Take two 5ml teaspoonfuls three times a day
- Do not take more than the stated dose
- If symptoms persist or worsen or persist for more than 7 days consult your doctor or pharmacist
Not suitable for children under 12 years
Do not take more Potters Cough Remover than the stated dose in your own product: If you take too many doses, discontinue use and contact a doctor or pharmacist.If you forget to take Potters Cough Remover: take a replacement as soon as you remember, unless it is nearly time for your next does and continue to take this medicine as directed.
- Up to a maximum of 3 doses a day
- Do not take 2 doses at the same time to make up for a missed dose
Each 5ml of Potter's Cough Remover oral solution contains active ingredients: Black Cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa L. Nutt.) 5mg, Ipecacuanha (Cephaelis ipecacuanha) BP 6.5mg, Lobelia (Lobelia inflata L.) BP 12mg, Pleurisy (Asclepias tuberosa L.) Root 12mg, Scullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora L.)12.5mg, Liquid Extract Elecampane (Inula helenium L.) (1:1 21% alcohol) 0.075ml, Liquid Extract Horehound (Marrubium vulgare L.) (1:1 21% alcohol) 0.1 ml, Liquid Extract Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis L.) (1:1 21% alcohol) 0.075ml.
Also contains: Rectified Spirit, Methyl Hydroxybenzoate E218, Propyl Hydroxybenzoate E216, Tincture Capsicum Fort, Skunk Cabbage, Valerian, Chloroform, Anise Oil, Tincture Myrrh, Treacle, Syrup (sucrose), Solid Extract Liquorice, Avicel CL611 and Water.
Do not take Potters Cough Remover if you:
- have previously had an allergic reaction to any of the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients in the mixture
- are pregnant or breastfeeding
- have liver disease, liver or renal impairment
- suffer from epilepsy
- are having treatment or have a history of an oestrogen dependent tumour
Consult your doctor before taking Potters Cough Remover if you:
- are taking other medication known to react with alcohol (e.g. metronidazole)
- suffer from alcoholism
Taking other medicines: Interactions with other medicines are not known. You should seek the advice from your pharmacist or doctor before taking this product. This includes medicines you buy for yourself as well as those prescribed by your doctor.
Driving and using machines: Potters Cough Remover contains ethanol (alcohol) and therefore it is advised that you do not take this medicine if you are going to drive or use machinery.
Important information about some of the ingredients of Potters Cough Remover:
- This medicinal product contains 12 vol % Ethanol i.e. up to 960mg per dose (equivalent to 24ml beer, 10ml wine per dose) it may be harmful for:
- those suffering from alcoholism
- should be taken into account in pregnant or breastfeeding women
- children
- high risk groups such as patients with liver disease of epilepsy.
- It also contains Methyl Hydroxybenzoate E218 and Propyl Hydroxybenzoate E216 which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
- This product contains Sucrose (syrup). If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
Possible side effects: Like all medicines, Potters Cough Remover can sometimes cause side effects.
Black Cohosh, an ingredient of this product, may cause liver problems. Symptoms of liver disorders include jaundice (yellowing of the skin or white of eyes), severe upper stomach pains, nausea or vomiting, dark urine, unusual tiredness, weakness and loss of appetite.
If you experience any of these side effects you should stop taking this product consult your doctor immediately.
Other possible side effects include: Allergic skin reactions (itching and skin rash), facial swelling, swelling of the feet, ankles or lower leg, weight gain, gastrointestinal symptoms e.g. indigestion and diarrhoea.
