Product InfoIbuprofen Tablets are used for the relief of rheumatic and muscular pain, pain of non-serious arthritic conditions, backache , neuralgia, headache and migraine , dental pain and period pains . They are also for the relief of feverishness, colds and influenza .

Ibuprofen belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It relieves pain , reduces inflammation and lowers temperature when you have a fever.

Ibuprofen Tablets (Generic) are available as:

Substitution: We try to use the same manufacturer for each generic product, but we will substitute equivalent products from another manufacturer if there is a supply problem.
Directions

Ibuprofen Directions: The tablets should be swallowed with a drink of water, preferably with or after food.

  • Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years: Take one or two 200mg tablets or one 400mg tablet up to 3 times a day, or as instructed by your doctor.
  • The dose should not be repeated more frequently than every 4 hours and not more than 6 x 200mg or 3 x 400mg tablets should be taken in any 24 hour period.
  • Do not give to children under 12 years of age.
  • If these tablets were prescribed by your doctor the dose may be slightly different to the usual dose given above; always follow your doctor's instructions for taking medicines.
  • Do not exceed the stated dose
  • If symptoms persist for more than 3 days consult your doctor.
  • Side effects may be minimised by using the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration.

If you take more tablets than you should: Speak to your doctor or pharmacist straight away.

If you forget to take a dose of Ibuprofen Tablets: Take the missed dose when you remember, if necessary. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

The active ingredient is Ibuprofen as a 200mg or 400mg dose.

Other ingredients will vary depending on the make and strength.

Warnings

Before taking Ibuprofen Tablets.

Do not take if:

  • You have ever had or are suffering from stomach ulcers or bleeding of the stomach.
  • You are allergic to ibuprofen, aspirin or any other pain killers, or to any of the other ingredients contained in these tablets. The colouring contains Sunset Yellow (E110) which may cause allergic reactions.(An allergic reaction may be recognised as shortness of breath, blocked nose, rash, itching or swollen face or lips).
  • If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, check with your doctor before taking this medicine as it contains lactose and sucrose.

Take special care if:

  • You suffer from asthma.
  • You suffer from heart, liver or kidney problems.
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You are taking drugs to thin the blood (anticoagulants); drugs which increase the volume of urine (diuretics); drugs for high blood pressure or heart disease; the drugs Lithium or Methotrexate.

Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking these tablets if any of the above statements applies to you.

Possible side effects:

Like all medicines Ibuprofen may sometimes cause side effects, and those which may occur include:

  • Stomach pain, nausea and indigestion.
  • Occasionally, stomach ulcer and stomach bleeding (signs of this are black tarry stools or vomiting blood).
  • Allergic reactions such as skin rashes, itching, red or swollen skin, difficulty breathing and very rarely skin peeling.
  • Rarely, changes in blood which can lead to bruising.
  • Blood in urine, kidney damage or kidney failure.
  • Rarely, liver problems
  • Headache, dizziness, and ringing the ears.

Medicines such as ibuprofen may be associated with a small risk of heart attack ("myocardial infarction") or stroke.

If you experience any of the following, stop taking the medicine immediately and tell your doctor.

Unexplained wheezing, shortness of breath, skin rash, itching, bruising or facial swelling.

If you do notice any side effects, including any not mentioned , please inform your doctor or pharmacist.
