Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablets are for the short term treatment of acute pain which is not relieved by paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin alone:
Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablets can be used for: Migraine, headache, dental pain, period pain, strains & sprains, backache, rheumatic pain and sciatica.
Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablets contain three active ingredients Paracetamol and Codeine and Caffeine:
Paracetamol and Codeine are painkillers: by working on your body in different ways paracetamol and codeine combine to relieve pain.
- Caffeine acts to further help the effectiveness of paracetamol
Codeine Restrictions: Because of the danger of addiction we are limiting orders to one pack at a time for products containing codeine or dihydrocodeine, and not accepting further orders within a month. - Can cause addiction. For three days use only.
- If you need to use this medicine for more than three days at a time, see your doctor, pharmacist or health care professional.
- Taking codeine regularly for a long time can lead to addiction, which might cause you to feel restless and irritable when you stop the tablets.
- Taking a painkiller for headaches too often or for too long can make them worse.
How to take Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablets:
- Always read the full information in your own leaflet
Avoid to much caffeine in drinks like tea and coffee. High caffeine intake can cause difficulty sleeping, shaking, and uncomfortable feeling in the chest.
- Do not give to children under 12 years of age
Adults and children aged 12 years and over:
- Take 2 tablets dissolved in a full tumbler of water (200ml)
- Every 4 hours as needed
Do Not:
- take more frequently than every 4 hours
- take more than 8 tablets in 24 hours
- take more that the recommended dose
If symptoms persist consult your doctor
Do not take Solpadeine Plus for more than 3 days: If you need to use this medicine for more than 3 days you must speak to your doctor or pharmacist
Possible withdrawal effects: Solpadeine Plus contains codeine which can cause addiction if you take it continuously for more than 3 days. When you stop taking it you may get withdrawal symptoms. You should talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you think you are suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
Immediate medical advice should be sought in the event of an overdose, even if you feel well, because of the risk of delayed, serious liver damage.
Each Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablet contains the active ingredients: Paracetamol 500 mg Codeine Phosphate Hemihydrate 8 mg and Caffeine 30 mg
The tablets also contain: Sodium bicarbonate, sorbitol powder (E 420), saccharin sodium, sodium lauryl sulphate, citric acid, sodium carbonate, polyvinylpyrrolidone and silicone fluid.
Before you take Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablets:
- This medicine contains Codeine which can cause addiction if you take it continuously for more than 3 days. This can give you withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking the medicine.
- If you take a painkiller for headaches for more than 3 days it can make them worse.
Do not take Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablets if you:
- have ever had an allergic reaction to paracetamol, caffeine, codeine or other opioid painkillers or to any of the other ingredients listed in your own leaflet
- are taking other medicines containing paracetamol or codeine
Ask your doctor before you take Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablets if you:
- have liver or kidney disease, including alcoholic liver disease
- have bowel problems including blockage of your bowel
- have had an operation to remove your gall bladder
- have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars
- are on a controlled sodium diet - each 2 tablet dose contains 854 mg sodium
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablets if you are taking any prescribed medicines:
Particularly:
- metoclopramide or domperidone - used to treat nausea and vomiting
- colestyramine - used to treat high cholesterol
- monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), prescribed for depression
- medicines that make you drowsy
- If you are taking blood thinning drugs (anticoagulants e.g. warfarin) and you need to take a pain reliever on a daily basis, talk to your doctor because of the risk of bleeding. But you can take occasional doses of Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablets.
Pregnancy or breast feeding:
- Talk to your doctor before you take this medicine if you are pregnant
- Do not take Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablets whilst breast feeding unless advised by your doctor.
Some people may have side effects when using Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablets: If you have any unwanted side effects you should seek advise from your your doctor, pharmacist or other healthcare professional.
When using this product you may experience:
- Constipation
Stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor immediately is you experience:
- Severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, if you have recently had your gall bladder removed
- Allergic reactions such as skin rash and itching sometime with swelling of the mouth or face or shortness of the breath
- Skin peeling or mouth ulcers
- Breathing problems. These are likely if you have experienced them before when taking other painkillers such as ibuprofen or aspirin
- Unexpected bruising or bleeding
- Nausea, sudden weight loss, loss of appetite and yellowing of the eyes and skin.
If you do get any side effects, even those not mentioned in your own leaflet, tell your doctor or pharmacist.
